Jose Madamba, M.D.
Jose Madamba, M.D., was born and raised in Bacara, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. Generations of his family lived a humble life on the farm. But his father had dreams of him becoming a doctor and Dr. Jose fulfilled his dad’s wish and graduated from medical school at Far Eastern University in Manila, where he also met his future wife, Dr. Gloria. Coming to America and settling in Hawaii, Dr. Jose completed general surgery residency training at the University of Hawaii, serving as chief surgical resident. During his 40+ year career in general surgery Dr. Jose performed surgeries at hospitals all across Oahu and had a private practice, too. He helped pioneer new procedures in the state of Hawaii like laparoscopy. He also served on the Clinical Faculty for the John A. Burns School of Medicine, teaching students and residents with kindness and compassion. He participated in over a dozen medical missions to foreign countries, most of all in his native Philippines. He served as President of the Philippine Medical Association of Hawaii, with the theme of his tenure focusing on spirituality and health. Dr. Jose retired in 2014, but pursues continuing education in internal medicine and integrative medicine. He enjoys spending time with family, golf, cooking, family/action movies, nature shows & classic TV shows, yoga, reading, and traveling.
